Since 1980 Richard Baron has been the managing principal of the Law Firm of Richard Baron & Associates. Mr. Baron graduated in 1967 from the American University with a B.A. in Government and Public Administration and attained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law, in 1970. Mr. Baron was admitted to the New York Bar in 1970 and the Florida Bar 1974. His employment history includes being a Trial Attorney with the Department of the Treasury from 1970-1974 and then the tax litigation attorney at Greenberg Traurig from 1974-1979.
With almost 40 years of litigation experience in the Federal and State Courts throughout Florida, Mr. Baron has tried hundreds of cases dealing with commercial and transactional matters, family law matters, Florida Bar disciplinary matters, and criminal matters. Mr. Baron has been appointed numerous times as a Guardian Ad Litem to assist Family Court Judges in difficult cases with alcohol and drug issues and was honored by the Eleventh Judicial Circuit as the “Guardian ad Litem of the Year” in 2009. Mr. Baron has been selected as one of the most frequent lecturers and panel members at the FLA annual convention and has also been a frequent member of panels sponsored by the Daily Business Review and the American Bar Association on such areas as ethics and professionalism. Mr. Baron has also been appointed by the Miami-Dade County Commission as a member of the Addiction Services Board to assist the county in dealing with addiction and alcoholism. In addition, Mr. Baron has argued many cases before the Supreme Court of Florida.
As a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1985, Mr. Baron has been a pillar of strength to other addicts and alcoholics since his early recovery. Mr. Baron has sponsored hundreds of recovering addicts and alcoholics in the past 20 years and is responsible for helping countless people stay the path to long-term recovery.
Mr. Baron is the founder and has been the President of the Friends of the Drug Court, Inc., since its inception in 2003. The Friends of the Drug Court, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that raises and contributes in excess of $400,000.00 annually to the support of the Miami-Dade County, Florida Drug Court as well as to education and housing grants to the participants of the Drug Court.
Jerry Breslin graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1975 with a BS degree in Economics and Business. He attained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami in 1978. He then worked as an Assistant Public Defender in Miami-Dade County, Florida where he tried over 80 criminal jury trials to verdict. Since leaving the Public Defender’s Office in 1982 he has focused his practice on civil and criminal trial litigation in state and Federal courts nationwide as well as on commercial and corporate litigation and business transactions.
Jerry currently focuses his practice primarily on trial litigation whether civil, criminal or administrative, litigated family law matters, appellate practice, and Florida Bar regulatory and disciplinary matters. Additionally, Jerry regularly litigates and consults on all matters involving the issue of alcohol or substance addiction including Marchman Act proceedings, Baker Act proceedings, and criminal and civil matters where expertise in the area of addiction is material to the issues being litigated.
Jerry has for the past 20 years been an active part of the NA/AA recovery community and for the past 12 years been a monitor for Florida Lawyers Assistance which is an organization that assists lawyers, Florida Bar applicants and those in the legal community who are struggling with drug or alcohol issues.
Jerry is actively involved in charitable and civic causes and for the past fourteen years has been the Executive Director of the Friends of the Drug Court, Inc., a 501c3 charity that supports the Miami Dade Drug Court. Jerry is also a Board Member to Our Children Our Future, Inc., a minority-owned and operated 501c3 charity that supports underprivileged children and families in Miami-Dade and Broward counties for which he currently also acts as legal counsel.
Mr. Sarmiento graduated from Williams Patterson University in New Jersey with a degree in Political Science and attained his Juris Doctor degree from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida in 2002. Mr. Sarmiento began his career as Assistant State Attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida located in Miami, Florida. As an Assistant State Attorney, Mr. Sarmeinto has prosecuted all types of criminal cases from misdemeanor crimes, DUI cases to serious violent crimes and drug trafficking cases. Prior to leaving the office, Mr. Sarmiento was a felony division chief responsible for the supervision and litigation training of younger prosecutors.
As a member of Richard Baron & Associates, Mr. Sarmiento uses the skills he has developed as a prosecutor to aggressively defend and prosecute many of the firm’s criminal, civil and family law cases. It is Mr. Sarmiento’s diverse experience that allows him to successfully navigate cases through the often turbulent litigation process.
Ms. Baron graduated in 1997 from Indiana University with a B.A. in Psychology and Religious Studies and attained her Juris Doctor degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 2000. Ms. Baron was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 2000 and was an Assistant District Attorney with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in Cleveland, Ohio from 2000 to 2005. Ms. Baron was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2005 and remains a member in good standing of the Ohio Bar.
In 2005 Ms. Baron relocated to Miami, Florida and was honored to join her father’s firm; Law Firm of Richard Baron & Associates. Ms. Baron has over ten years of litigation experience in the State Courts of Florida and Ohio involving family law matters, criminal matters, and banking litigation. Ms. Baron has been appointed numerous times as a Guardian Ad Litem to assist Family Court Judges in determining difficult time-sharing cases.
In 2010, Ms. Baron was certified by the Supreme Court of Florida as a Circuit Civil Mediator and had conducted numerous mediations in the area of Mortgage Foreclosure.
